That would indicate that you are actually saying: $monthVal = $monthName[04]; where the 04 is actually a string; you have no element '04' in your array. Yep, also - no need to redeclare $monthName each iteration. If you wanted you could also just declare it thusly: $monthName = array ("01" => "Jan", "02" => "Feb", "03" => "Mar", "04" => "Apr", "05" => "May", "06" => "Jun", "07" => "Jul", "08" => "Aug", "09" => "Sep", "10" => "Oct", "11" => "Nov", "12" => "Dec"); ... incidentally, Oct/Nov/Dec should have worked previously afaik, PHP is fairly forgiving.
