backing up "blobs"

I've been trying to dump and move to a backup database, images stored as
blobs
they will not display from the backup db, I assume they have been corrupted
in the move. Is what I'm trying to do possible? I don't want to build a
site that can't be backed up, but I like storing the images in MySQL for
other reasons
