Error in php-4.0.3 ?

This below works fine in php-4.0.0 but in php-4.0.3 it dont, anyone who can help me?
$conn = pg_connect( "dbname=test user=test" );
$access = time();
$query = "UPDATE vidamic SET access = ('$access') ".
"WHERE userid = ('$userid')";
pg_exec( $conn, $query );
pg_close($conn);
It worked just fine just untill i uppgraded.
