No connection to online database

Hi there! I set up Apache/PHP4/MySQL on Win98 and created an HTML form to insert data into a table in the mySQL database runnung on "localhost". This works pretty fine. I then changed the hostname in the mysql_connect() command to an online server (sql.kdt.de -> command : 'mysql_connect("sql.kdt.de", "user", "pass")') with appropriate username and password (works, too, ich checked it with mysql.exe). When I click "Post" on my form to insert the data into the database, there is a success message (I inserted several errormessages as well) but no data is inserted into the database (I also have appropriate rights to insert data) and according to my modem lights, no data is transmitted from me to the online database. Where is the problem? Seems like PHP does not connect form my local webserver to the internet, but why? Can anyone help me on that?
