i need help indexing a search

hello all i just made a search engine for a web site. it returns the meta keys of html files in a directory, but my prob is i can get 200 or 400 results but i don't wanna show that on a page. i just want to use 10 results each time something like prev 1 2 3 4 5 next i thought in sending the query results to a mysql data base and then do a query. but even so i don't know how to do the page forward and backward (prev next) i know i can limit the results on the mysql query but how do i do the php code to make this work. bt i wanted to avoy working with mysql as i would delay the whole process (i think).
