What doesn't work?
From a glance, you left out the quotes; you should use
$ip = getenv ("REMOTE_ADDR");
Or just use
mysql_query("UPDATE phpDownloads SET iphit = $REMOTE_ADDR
WHERE DownloadID = $did");
