I had the same problem. When I put PHP_INTERBASE.DLL in the SYSTEM32 folder, it loaded fine. Also, if you are going to connect to interbase version 5.x from interbase 6.0, make sure you put the character set, buffers and dialect in the connection after host, username, and password.
