There can be many reasons for this. Here are a few to look into.
Whenever you stop/start DB2, the first connection will experience a
significant overhead if an activate database command was not issued prior to
this connection. The activate database command will allocate buffers, start
certain services, etc.
Another reason could be the lack of buffer space for your database.
Depending on how big the rows are that you are selecting, the default buffer
space (I assume you used the default when you installed DB2 also known as
UDB) might not be big enough.
Check how many services are started when UDB is started (database manager
configuration parameter num_initagents). The default is 0. You might want
to change this to a number the equals the initial number of connections to
your database. Allocating these agents is overhead too.
These are just a few biggies to start looking into. I suggest you either
consult a DBA (if you have one) or access the following site for additional
information:
http://www-4.ibm.com/cgi-bin/software/db2www/library/pubs.d2w/report?uid=UNK
NOWN&pwd=&search_type=SIMPLE&r_host=&last_page=list.d2w
You neglected to say what platform UDB is running on and what version of UDB
you are running. I am assuming Linux.
