Actually, I'm having a similar problem. I'm working on a PHP site that uses
an SQL Server 7 database, using FreeTDS. All queries longer than 504
characters are causing the connection to be ended. We determined that the
problem was within FreeTDS, not the PHP extension by trying to run queries
using a FreeTDS example. It looks like the code in FreeTDS uses 512-byte
packets (so it has the 504 characters plus an 8-byte header), but it's not
handling multiple packets successfully. I've emailed the creator of
FreeTDS, and I just sent an email to the FreeTDS mailing list.
So maybe you're having the same problem that I'm having. I'll let you know
if I find a solution or get any help from the FreeTDS mailing list. You can
subscribe to it yourself at http://www.freetds.org/.

Subject: [PHP-DB] SQL Server
I've got a linux/apache/php server accessing data from an Win2K/SQL
Server 7 database using ODBC drivers from openlink. The problem I'm
having is I have a text field, and when I try and insert a large amount
of text into the database using a normal insert or update it gets
truncated. I was wondering if anyone was doing this and if so, how.
Thanks.
