Aborted connection to mySQL with PHP4..

I recently upgraded a test server to PHPv4. I am now unable to query my
mySQL server (3.23.12). When I send a query from PHPv4 I get the
following in my mySQL error log:
000622 13:44:23 Aborted connection 123 to db: 'webtest' user 'webtest'
(Got an error reading communication packets)
If I use PHPv3 (on the same machine), I get no error. Has anyone
experienced this? All I am doing is connecting to the DB and attempting
to do a select.
