In PostgreSQL you start a transaction executing the SQL statement "BEGIN",
then you end it by executing "COMMIT" or "ROLLBACK" in the case you want to
abort the transaction or there was an error.

You may want to look in the documentation of Metabase, a PHP database
abstraction package, that explains the basics of how transactions work.
With Metabase transactions are implicitly started by disabling the
auto-commit mode, that is wether you are using PostgreSQL or any other
transaction capable database.
