nevermind.
i was having trouble with the str_replace (i saw where I said strstr, but I meant str_replace)..
I thought it should do what it did, and I finally got it!
$edited_user = str_replace ($seperated[0], "<FONT
COLOR=\"orange\">$seperated[0]</FONT>", $row['topic']);
