I doubt that a few thousand records would be more than mysql is capable of
handeling.
However my ignorance of Mysql is abundant.
Does it use the /tmp directory and is your /tmp or root partition small?
(guessing linux here).
Does mysql use the /tmp directory for temporary tables?
(Answer in ReadMe(s) probably)...
