Hi ! I solved this problem. The list, where persistent database connections are cached, is thread local. Since the Win32 release of Apache is muli-threading with a default parameter of 50 active threads and the incoming requests are dispatched to the threads in alternating order, it takes 50 requests before the first persistent connection is to be re-used. I decreased the 'ThreadsPerChild' value in 'httpd.conf' to 5, and - Miracle! - after the fifth request the connections are going to be re-used. Wolfgang.
