link_identifier in mysql_query

Hi,
just a theoretical question:
is it neccessary/useful/good to specify the
link_identifer for a query if I include an
ypplication file where the link is opened
in every file.

So I assume the link opened by the application-include would be used
or could this cause some trouble?
