the link will be the link you set up to connect to mysql, or the resource id
as php refers to it (i think)
you'll have something like $link=mysql_connect(.......) as below
[example from manual]
<?php
$link = mysql_connect ("localhost", "username", "secret")
or die ("Could not connect");
print ("Connected successfully");
mysql_close ($link);
?>
