Interbase select problem

Somebody please tell me why the first statement works and the second doesn't.
1.
...
$dbh=ibase_connect("host","$user","$pass") or die("Connection
Error");
$q="SELECT * FROM mytable";
$result=ibase_query($q) or die("SELECT Error");
...
2.
...
$dbh=ibase_connect("host","$user","$pass") or die("Connection
Error");
$q="SELECT * FROM mytable";
$result=ibase_query($dbh,$q) or die("SELECT Error");
^^^^^
=> Warning: 0 is not a valid ..., or PHP crash
