ereg and first occurence

Hi all,
I would like to extract a piece from an html file. But
when I try the ereg function like this it ends up
pulling EVERYTHING from the first occurence of "<FONT
face=Verdana>" all the way to the end of the file.
eregi("<FONT face=Verdana>(.*)</FONT>", $string,
$output);
for example: any thoughts on how I could extract
'NAME' from the following and not CITY?
<FONT face=Verdana>NAME</FONT>
<FONT face=Arial>CITY</FONT>
