Hi,
The current configure script bails out if the C++ compiler cannot generate
executables. This means people won't be able to install PHP if they don't
have a C++ compiler, even if they only need the thread unsafe C-only
version.
Two things that need to be done:
1. Make configure warn about the C++ compiler but not consider it as a
fatal error.
2. Make PHP's configure bail out if Zend's configure fails (it took me
some time to figure out what was going on, since even though Zend's
configure bailed out as soon as it couldn't generate C++ binaries, PHP's
configure kept on going and everything seemed fine at the end).
automake whizes? :)
