Hello,
For those that don't know it, I have been dedicating some of my very short
spare time to implement code repository for classes of objects written in
PHP.
This site is meant to be a place to share ready to use free PHP components
where any PHP developer may upload it their classes and the users may get
them without any expense.
One of the characteristics of this site is that it notifies subscribed
users when new classes are uploaded or when the files of existing classes
are updated by their authors.
Despite I only have advertised this site by the word of mouth and with some
links that other PHP enthusiasts list, there are now about 1000 subscribed
users. Since I am hosting this site in a virtual server that I hired, my
ISP is not willing to put up the load of the mail server when sending the
notification messages.
Now, I am even afraid of advertising more this site and be flooded by too
may thousands of users that overload my site and my ISP forces me to hire a
dedicated server.
I am willing to hire a dedicated server for this site sooner or later, but
I'm afraid that won't happen before I can justify the expense. I am
considering to hire the space to place ads of sponsors that are interested
but currentely I am not actively looking for any sponsors.
So, what I am asking for now is if is there anybody that wouldn't mind
lending the access to a SMTP server to let me distribute the notification
messages. As you may understand I am not making profit of anything on the
site, so any help would be for the benefit of the whole PHP community.
Actually, I have great plans for the site, but since this is not my main
activity (one that I get paid for), it has been hard to find mor time to
implement what I plan.
Borrowing a SMTP server would be a temporary solution. If anybody is
interested to sponsor the site somehow with ad banners or anything you may
benefit from, I am interested to hear your proposals. Just mail me
privately to mlemos@acm.org.
