The above compiler call has been generated by configure when used with "--with-ldap". It includes an explicit "-I/usr/include". This moves the /usr/include directory forward in the search order of include directories. Consequently, /usr/include/stdarg.h shadows "/opt/NUegcs-1.1.2/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.7/egcs-2.91.66/include/stdarg.h". The normal include order is GNU CPP version egcs-2.91.66 19990314 (egcs-1.1.2 release) (sparc) #include "..." search starts here: #include <...> search starts here: . /opt/include /opt/include/mysql /opt/include/ucd-snmp /usr/local/include /usr/local/include /opt/NUegcs-1.1.2/sparc-sun-solaris2.7/include /opt/NUegcs-1.1.2/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.7/egcs-2.91.66/include /usr/include End of search list. As soon as I remove the "-I/usr/include" from the Makefile manually, the main.o is produced correctly. Question: Does this constitute a problem in the PHP3 build or is this a local setup problem?
