Comments:
First, upgrade to the released version of PHP 3 if you haven't done so yet.
Then, set the ini directive mysql.default_user and (if necessary) mysql.default_password. The way
the MySQL API connect function
works make this a very possible symptom.
Please update us as to whether the problem persists or not. If it does, what does mysql() or
mysql_pconnect() say when they fail?
(make sure you run with error_reporting set to report warnings)
[no response from the user for quite a while - if you're still experiencing the problem with
the released versions of PHP 3, please resubmit
the bug report ]
