Right, and that's the reason Perl can do a couple more tricks with regex's. Man, Perl internals scare me. I had to wade through pp_hot.c to figure out some regex stuff and I swear I'd never seen such convoluted programming before.I looked at the Perl sources a few years ago before Zeev and I started writing the PHP 3 engine.
