PHP 4b3 Document Contains No Data

I have a had a small problem using php4b3.
The error I get in the Apache error log is:
[Tue Dec 28 14:02:01 1999] [notice] child pid 857 exit signal
Segmentation fault (11)
I am using Apache/1.3.9 (Unix) PHP/4.0b3 and is running under RedHat
Linux 6.0
I compiled php and apache following the instructions supplied in your
INSTALL file.
The problem seems to occur when I view a phps file and then try to view
the php file or
vice versa. The php files I used are attached. Also attached is a
backtrace created by gdb
