Does anybody have a quick machine with PHP 4 installed and another box on
a quiet 100M segment connected to it? We need to update the PHP numbers
on this benchmark page:
http://www.chamas.com/bench/
We should be faster than mod_perl on this benchmark. Right now mod_perl
looks faster because they threw a dual processor PIII-500 at it compared
to the single-cpu PII-400 that I have available.
Running the test is easy. Just create a little PHP test script that looks
like this:
<?echo "Hello "?>World
And bang away at it with ApacheBench (ab) from another machine. Try
playing around with the -k switch on ab and try it both with and without a
Content-Length header. With current PHP 4 CVS we should be able to get
above 1000 on fast hardware.
