Speech Synthesis - ZEND_{REGISTER,FETCH}_RESOURCE problem

I am working on speech synthesis support for PHP but I am running into
some ZEND_{FETCH,REGISTER}_RESOURCE problems. For some reason the
resource is never registered. Placing var_dump()'s after each line
reports "resource(1) of type 6" and if I add memory checking it says
"bool(false)." Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
