Odd problem with password authentication

Good afternoon, I've run into an odd problem while using php and Apache, specifically when dealing with the htpasswd bin and password authentication to get to certain files. I'm using Apache 1.3.9 with php-3.0.15 as a module; php itself has been compiled with support for PostgreSQL 6.5.3. It turns out that after I've compiled the whole package, Apache's htpasswd program will core dump when trying to encrypt the password for the user I've submitted. Also, if I have password-protected a file or set of files using an .htaccess file, the httpd core dumps when trying to verify the username and password from the resulting dialog box. I've noticed that the htpasswd bin only does this when it's been linked with PostgreSQL's libpq.so, which usually sits in /usr/local/pgsql/lib. If I modify the Makefile to not link against it, the htpasswd bin responds correctly. I'm hestitant to do the same thing to the httpd bin in case it requires that library for php to work with PostgreSQL correctly. I've included the stack trace that I received for this bug, as the FAQ suggested. Has anyone run into this problem before, and if so, what is the easiest solution (short of compiling with a different database). If this turns out to be better served by the PostgreSQL or Apache folks, please let me know.
