David will be home tomorrow and he will then (or on Thursday) check that your CVS is up to date with ours. David is the one that is responsible for the renaming of the mysqld socket (I would still have prefered to have /tmp/mysql.sock) and will have to deal with this :( Anyway, one option is in php use the following sequence to open the connections to MySQL: ---------- mysql_sock=mysql_init(0); if (!mysql_sock) { printf("Can't allocate mysql structure\n"); return 0; } mysql_option(mysql_sock,MYSQL_READ_DEFAULT_GROUP,"php"); ------------ This will read the 'php' and 'client' sections from the my.cnf file and this should ensure that the socket is ok. David can in the .rpm add some code to automaticly create a /etc/my.cnf file with the default options for the socket file! If you have any other suggestions how to do this right, please mail us!
