Well, it doesn't, really. What I was looking for was
a section like this:
QUICK INSTALL -- BUILDING A DSO WITH APXS
This builds a dynamically shared object (DSO) so that
PHP can be used
without rebuilding Apache or downloading the Apache
source. This should
be of special interest to Redhat6.x users who have the
Apache devel rpm.
1. Make sure you have a working APXS (Comes with
Apache). For Redhat
users, this is distributed with the Apache devel
rpm. Also make sure
your Apache supports DSO.
2. Download, Unpack and Untar the PHP source. Enter
the PHP directory that
you just untarred.
3. Run ./configure --help to figure out which options
you want, such as
MySQL support.
4. Run "make clean" if you have tried configure
before.
5. Run configure with this option (and any others you
want)
./configure --with-apxs=/path/to/apxs
6. Make sure configure didn't give you an error about
APXS and type:
make
make install
7. Look at your Apache config files to make sure the
module entries were
entered correctly. Mine weren't. Comment out any
old PHP module stuff.
8. Edit your httpd.conf or srm.conf file and add:
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
9. Restart Apache
