Inconsistent behaviour between php3.0.14 and php4 RC01

Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone has come across this before but when I call a
member function of a class which reads input from a file in two successive
instances I get
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object using php4
Yet the same code produces the desired output (a formatted table) using
php3.0.14
I've attached a segment of code which produces this discrepency.
