well a common reason is bugs. It's often wise to wait 6 months or so for
any new software before you upgrade unless there is such a pressing need
that you cannot wait. A common policy I use is to wait 6 months, the
exception being major security fixes aor if we need functionality A right
now and cannot wait.
If your running a beta for a prodcution server your opening yourself up
for problems. Also not many "official" support channels support any form
of betaware, im not talking about php specifically here just in general.
For personal use or testing beta is fine but for the stuff where downtime
equals lost money i wait. You don't want that bug to pop up and cost you
a whole bunch of money because it causes something to not work, opens you
up to an attack or simple downtime. The scary thing is something not
working 100% might not crop up initially and only be obvious after the
fact when you cannot recover really.
Discretion is the better part of valor and all..
