Operating system: Digital UNIX V4.0F (Rev. 1229)
PHP version: 4.0 Release Candidate 1
PHP Bug Type: Compile Failure
Bug description: Make files needed to be hacked for me to build
I simply unpacked this and built it with the native OS compiler and make.
This has worked fine for the php3 release 3.012 and beta 4.0b3.
I ran configure like so:
./configure --with-apache=/afs/northstar.dartmouth.edu/uother/source/sys/apache/apache_1.3.6 \
--with-oci8=/dcis/dbmses/oracle/product/8.0.5 \
--with-oracle=/dcis/dbmses/oracle/product/8.0.5 \
--disable-debug
When I ran make in the php directory, I got the following error:
Make: Cannot open /dcis/php/php-4.0RC1/build/./config_vars.mk. Stop.
It turns out that this configuration file was being generated in the php root
directory rather in the build sub-directory. I hacked the make files in build
to enable them to find this file and copied it into build (both were needed
in my environment) and then the various make files could find the file.
The next problem was that the various make files in subdirectories of
the ext subdirectory would not build with my make. I got syntax
errors on the line just after the definition of SUBDIRS and immediately before the
include $(topsrcdir)/build/rules.mk (or other /build include file)
line. When I removed the tab character on that line it would build.
Note that these extra tab characters were not in *every* Makefile, just a few.
I thought my hacks were sufficient to get a clean build, but I did get lots of
warnings and one error (in file.c, which I will report in another bug).
The warnings had to do with not having function definitions for some of the
functions like zend_ptr_stack_get_arg():
cc: Warning: zend_execute.h, line 57: There is no function named zend_ptr_stack_
get_arg defined in this compilation unit. (nofunc)
ZEND_API inline int zend_ptr_stack_get_arg(int requested_arg, void **data ELS_DC
);
--------------------^
When the build did complete with no errors, running the resulting Apache build
(which built cleanly) got Unaligned access errors. We will try to debug this later,
though I wonder if they are caused by these build problems?
Of course I am hoping that the first official release has these problems worked out.
If we are going to be required to build gnu make and gnu c for our platform, that would be
a pain!
Thanks, David
