This seems to be more of a browser issue. I get the same trouble using MSIE
5, but it doesn't care if I name a file .php (which would parse it through
the PHP processor) or .html (which would directly send the file to the
browser, as there is no php in it, they should be the same anyway).
I'm not sure about what the exact specifications say, but if you put your
<script> after a <head>, your example just works. In Netscape, both work. So
I guess the only conclusion we can make here is either your html ain't valid
or once again MSIE proofed to be a shity browser.
