As reported in bug #4360, I'm having problems where PHP4 RC1/2 is writing
empty session files. The session files show up, but are always 0 bytes.
I made the problem go away by commenting out my Apache <VirtualHost>
sections. I'm using IP-based hosting. Then, I started removing the
comments from one vhost at a time, and eventually nailed it down to the
log paramaters within the virtual hosts. I'm piping log output to an
external program, Cronolog
(http://www.ford-mason.co.uk/resources/cronolog/), like so:
TransferLog "|/usr/local/sbin/cronolog /home/domain/logs/access_log-%m-%Y"
I do something like this for each virtual host, with an additional similar
CustomLog also piping to Cronolog. PHP4 sessions stop working when I have
more than two TransferLog or CustomLog's piping their ouput to Cronolog!
I'm not sure if the problem is dependent upon piping the logs to Cronolog,
or just having any kind of logging in the VirtualHost section. I'll check
this out tomorrow.
The machine is running FreeBSD 4.0, Apache 1.3.12+SSL, PHP4.0
RC2. Nothing else appears to be broken by the aforementioned log
paramaters. Am I crazy or what the heck is happening here? Incidently,
bug #2765 is nearly identical to my bug report, and also mentions problems
occur only when x number of <VirtualHost> entries appear in his apache
configuration file.
Thanks.
