i've been working with libtool from their cvs version. libtool 1.3.4 doesn't include -rpath's to shared libraries, causing apached to core dump when it can't find all the libraries (atleast on my netbsd 1.4y alpha / elf ). the only way to get around this is to explicitly specify -rpath's during link time. which doesn't work well if you want to do an automatic make.
my patched version of libtool from cvs takes care of the following:
1. fix inter-library dependency issues (netbsd, openbsd, etc)
2. allow passing of -rpath's to shared libraries
3. fix nasty bug of passing '-Wl,' to the gnu-ld
currently in order for me to compile w/o any errors, i have to copy my version of ltconfig and ltmain.sh to the php4 directory before ./configure and make.
if core group would like to integrate my libtool (1.3c-patched) with php4 before release, please let me know what files you guys will need. all the patches went into ltconfig.in, but you'll need the other files that came with libtool 1.3c as well.
i've scanned through the bug list and i think this will take care of many of them. i've only tested this on netbsd, so further testing from other os'es would be nice.
