PHP 4.0 Bug #4705: php4ts.dll crashes (dialog box - illegal operation)

This tutorial worked under php3, now it crashes (dialog box "this program has performed an illegal operation) and abruptly shuts down program -- referring to php4ts.dll Tutorial (with MySQL database structure) at http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/PHP/Commerce1/print.html Then download and install: http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/PHP/Commerce1/mymarket1.tar.gz Once installed, the program should allow changes to the underlying database, but these crash. I think this has something to do with php4 not accessing environmental variables as before, and not fully protecting against some calls.
