The leaks should be fixed in the CVS (as far as I recall).
As for the MySQL issue - if you're specifying a socket other than /tmp/mysql.sock, then there
was a bug in PHP 4.0.0 that prevents that from working - it always uses /tmp/mysql.sock. This bug
is fixed in the CVS (Scheduled for 4.0.1).
If you're not specifying a different socket - then there's something broken with your
MySQL server - it may not be running.
