set $PHP_AUTH variables not using the classic authentication

How can I set the $PHP_AUTH_USER and $PHP_AUTH_PW variables keeping their
values while the current session is active without passing them via GET or
POST method. (not using the classic PHP Authentication window with the 401
Header)
