The Oracle libraries are notorious for this. Here's the flags we use for
linking against 7.3.2:
DB_LIBS = -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib $(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/libclient.a -lsqlnet
-lncr -lsqlnet -lclient -lcommon -lgeneric -lsqlnet -lncr -lsqlnet
-lclient -lcommon -lgeneric -lepc -lnlsrtl3 -lc3v6 -lcore3 -lnlsrtl3
-lcore3 -lnlsrtl3 -lsocket -l nsl -lm -ldl -lposix4 -lsunmath -lm -lcore3
-lsocket -lnsl -lm -ldl -lposix4 -ls unmath -lc -lm
I've tried paring it down to a more concise form, but there are circular
dependencies between the libraries that screw things up.
It's not as bad as 8i, though- the build command is almost a page long..
