$this is not empty when calling a static method from within a class:
--cut--
class foo {
var $a = "A";
function doit() {
print $this->a;
}
}
class bar extends foo {
function doit() {
foo::doit();
print "OK";
}
}
$b = new bar;
$b->doit();
--cut--
prints AOK.
