Hi guys, I've updated the readme that currently ships with the win32 php-distribution. Ive included detailed instructions for PWS/IIS and Apache. Ive also included an HTML file with the same info (seems to be the standard for readmes nowadays). I will have a permanent place for the HTML file by tomorrow (as soon as I get back to work) at www.umesd.k12.or.us/php/win32install.html . I will try and hack out a install program in Delphi that configures for PWS/IIS and Apache. You might want to read the readmes over and make sure they are accurate, Ive tested each configuration myself to verify them but we ARE working with windows here. Keep up the great work on PHP. (Sorry about the hotmail sending, our GroupWise server is on the fritz) Salty``` a.k.a. Welcome to PHP 3 for Windows 95/98/NT! This README contains updated information on installation routines for the following: Windows 95/98/NT / Apache 1.3.x Windows 95/98 / PWS 4 Windows NT / IIS 3 Windows NT / IIS 4 NOTICE!!! All modules have changed! They are now prefixed with php3_. You will need to change you php3.ini file and/or any scripts loading extensions with the dl() function!!! (or you could always remove the php3_ prefix). This was done to help prevent confusion between php modules, and their supporting dll's. Please be sure to see the ChangeLog, Changes, FAQ.html and FunctionList.txt files for more information about this distribution. Updated docs are always located at http://www.php.net/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION - All OS/Server Combos ---------------------------------------------------------------------- STEP 1: Extract the php-3_x_x-win32.zip file to a directory of your choice. "C:\PHP3\" is common.... STEP 2: Copy the file, 'php3-dist.ini' to your %WINDOWS% directory and rename it to php3.ini. Your %WINDOWS% directory is typically: c:\windows for Win9x machines c:\winnt or c:\winnt40 for WinNT servers STEP 3: If you havent done so already, change the 'extension_dir' setting to point to your php3 installation directory, or whereever you have installed php3*.dll files. Set the doc_root to point to your webservers document_root. Coose which modules you would like to load when php starts: You can uncomment the: extension=php3_*.dll lines to load these modules. Some modules require you to have additional libraries installed on your system for the module to work correctly. You can find more information in the PHP FAQ at www.php.net. You can also load a module dynamically in your script using: dl("php_*.dll"); For PWS and IIS, you can set the browscap.ini to point to: c:\%WINDOWS%\%SYSTEM%\inetsrv\browscap.ini where %WINDOWS% = c:\windows or c:\winnt and %SYSTEM% = c:\windows\system or c:\winnt\system32 STEP 4: Follow the instructions below for you platform/server combination. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows 95/98/NT and Apache 1.3.x ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PHP runs as a CGI under Apache on these platforms. You must configure Apache to associate php-script files with the 'php.exe' executable. This can be done in various ways but the most common is listed below: Edit you srm.conf file to add: (Consult the Apache Docs for further info) ScriptAlias /php3/ "c:/path-to-php-dir/php.exe" AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3 AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .phtml AddType application/x-httpd-php3-source .phps Action application/x-httpd-php3 "/php3/php.exe" Action application/x-httpd-php3-source "/php3/php.exe" *To use the source code highlighting feature, simply create a .phps file with the same name as the original and stick this code in: <? show_source("original_php_script.php3");?>. Substitute original_php_script.php3 with the name of the file you wish to show. Thats it for Apache, consult the Apache docs for further configuration directives. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows 95/98/NT and PWS / IIS 3 and 4 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The recommended method for configuring these servers is to use the INF file included with the distribution (php_iis_reg.inf). You may want to edit this file and make sure the extensions and php install directories match your configuration. Or you can do it manually as shown below: WARNING: You need to edit the registry to configure these servers. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! The PHP development team will not be held responsible for damaged registry files. Back up your registry first! To edit your registry, go to the start button and select "run". Type in regedit and press enter. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/W3Svc/Parameters/ScriptMap 1.) Go to the edit menu and select: New->String Value 2.) Type in the EXTENSION you wish to use for your php scripts '.php3' 3.) Double click on the new string value and enter the path to php.exe in the value data field. example:'c:\php3\php.exe %s %s'. The '%s %s' is VERY important, you musnt leave this out. PHP will not work without it. 4.) Repeat these steps for each extension you wish to associate with PHP. .php3 and .phtml are the most common. To associate 'php.exe' with .php3 .phtml files, complete the following: 1.) Open the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT tree 2.) Go to the edit menu and select: New->Key 3.) Name the key the extension you wish to use to associate php files with: '.php3' 4.) Highlight the new key and in the right pane, double-click the default value and enter 'phpfile' 5.) Repeat these steps for each extension you wish to associate with php. 6.) Go to the edit menu and select: New->Key 7.) Name the key 'phpfile' 8.) Highlight the key 'phpfile' and in the right pane, double-click the default value and enter 'PHP Script' 9.) Now create a new key under 'phpfile' and name it 'Shell' 10.) Now create a new key under 'Shell' and name it 'open' 11.) Now create a new key under 'open' and name it 'command' 12.) Double click the default value for the key 'command' and enter: 'c:\path-to-php-dir\php.exe %1' 13.) Exit Regedit You must make any directory that will contain php scripts 'Script' permissions Consult the documentation that came with your server on how to do this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows NT and IIS 4 Additional Configuration ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To finish installing PHP3 on an NT Server running IIS 4, follow these instructions: 1.) Perform the registry hacks listed in the install section above for Win9x/PWS. 2.) In Internet Service Manager(MMC), select the Web site or the starting point directory of an application. 3.) Open the directory's property sheet (by right clicking and selecting properties), and then click the Home Directory, Virtual Directory, or Directory tab. 4.) Click the Configuration button, and then click the App Mappings tab. 5.) Click Add, and in the Executable box, type: 'c:\path-to-php-dir\php.exe %s %s'. You MUST have the %s %s on the end, PHP will not function properly if you forget to do this. 6.) In the Extension box, type the file name extension you want associated with php scripts. (You must repeat step 5 and 6 for each extension you want associated with php scripts. .php3 and .phtml are common. 7.) Set up the appropriate security. Make sure the directories that have php script files have 'Script' permission. (This is done in Internet Service Manager), and if your NT Server uses NTFS file system, add execute rights for I_USR_<webservername> to the directory that contains php.exe. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- External Modules ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Not all these modules will be supported in the future. Some libraries required to build some of these modules are not thread safe and will not be supported until they are (msql and gd are two such libraries that are not thread safe) php3_calendar.dll Calendar conversion functions php3_crypt.dll Crypt Functions php3_dbase.dll DBASE functions php3_dbm.dll GDBM emulation via Berkely DB2 library php3_filepro.dll READ ONLY access to filepro databases php3_gd.dll GD Library Functions for gif manipulation php3_hyperwave HyperWave Functions php3_imap4r2.dll IMAP 4 Functions php3_ldap.dll LDAP Functions php3_msql2.dll mSQL 1 Client php3_msql2.dll mSQL 2 Client php3_mssql.dll MSSQL Client (Requires MSSQL DB-Libraries) php3_mysql.dll MySQL functions php3_nsmail.dll Netscape Mail Functions php3_oci73.dll Oracle Functions php3_snmp.dll SNMP Get and Walk functions (NT ONLY!) php3_zlib.dll ZLib Functions See the PHP Docs for how to use these modules Attachment: [text/html] win32install.html
