I do not run PHP CGI as root, but I often use it in scripts running from cron or
the shell.
But you are right, the problem is gone now, but I did not realize it.
I build PHP4 regularly from CVS and then run the old PHP3 test scripts
("testall" in the php3/test directory, it takes only some minor changes to make
them run on PHP4).
The "file/001.php3t" began reporting an error with "is_executable" a couple of
months ago.
The strange thing is taht the bug was fixed, bat that the test script still
reports the same error when running as root, but not when running as an ordinary
user. So the old PHP3 test must have a bug somewhere that did not surface in
PHP3.
I copied the responsible lines from the script, but can not reproduce the error
immediately.
So I will close the bug report.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but the old PHP3 test scripts have discovered quite
a number of bugs when PHP4 was still beta.
I will be more careful in the future.
