You will need to compile PHP without HAVE_SETITIMER (as it uses SIGPROF for timeouts).
Then gprof should work but don't forget it's not very accurate although it could help you profile more or less how much time is spend in the PHP extension you are using and how much in PHP.

Hi, Has anyone used gprof for profiling PHP or a PHP extension? I would very much like to do this...
