I rewrote pack() to be buffer-overrun safe and also implemented unpack(). Both functions should behave a la Perl (which means that pack() now works differently than before for [aA] with given repeat count and [hH]). I also wrote some documentation for these functions, now I need a place to put them. Should I put them into misc, strings, vars or open a new section? Once I commit the changes it would be very useful if someone could test it thouroughly on little endian and 64-bit-long systems to ensure the byte order and sign extension stuff works properly.
