User-defined funcitons in the XML module

Could someone look into allowing the array($this, "Method") syntax for the user-defined handlers in the XML module? It doesn't look like a difficult thing to do, but I'm not familiar enough with the code to do it myself. I'd be grateful if someone could find the time to knock this off within the next few days.
