It will be useful, but please as there's no easy way to implement it in an efficient way, please don't just implement it...
If we ever do this, it'll have to be something in compile-time, which means we'd have to add lots of syntax to allow users to give 'hints' as to what kind of object a certain variable holds, etc. It'll most probably not be addressed in PHP 4.0, but PHP 4.1, so it's a bit along the way, right now.
