BTW, I clearly see in config.m4: AC_DEFINE(HAVE_LIBGD,1,[ ]) if test "$shared" = "yes"; then AC_MSG_RESULT(yes (shared)) GD_LIBS="-lgd" else AC_MSG_RESULT(yes (static)) AC_ADD_LIBRARY(gd) fi And then goes: AC_CHECK_LIB(z,compress, LIBS="$LIBS -lz",,) AC_CHECK_LIB(png,png_info_init, LIBS="$LIBS -lpng",,) So you check for z and png while you've done AC_ADD_LIBRARY(gd), which in configure means you try to link with libgd, but without all dozen of "-l"'s it needs. Shouldn't we wait with ADD_LIBRARY until we know _what_ libraries we want to add? Also, if I understand right the following lines: AC_CHECK_LIB(gd, gdImageCreateFromPng, [AC_DEFINE(HAVE_GD_PNG, 1, [ ])]) ... if test "$ac_cv_lib_gd_gdImageCreateFromPng" = "yes"; then AC_ADD_LIBRARY(png) AC_ADD_LIBRARY(z) fi it adds png and z only if we have gdImageCreateFromPng? But there's no way you'll find this function if you didn't add z and png, because without them gd is not going to link! Or these autoconf constructs mean not what I think they mean? -- Stanislav Malyshev stas@zend.com +972-3-6139665 ext.106
