build an extension

i would build an php extension but i failed after a few minutes. i've
used the ext_skel script to make a dir for my modules and so on.
fater i start the configuration builder i get the following error:

aclocal: configure.in: 748: macro `AM_PROG_LIBTOOL' not found in library
make[1]: *** [aclocal.m4] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2
...i have aclocal v1.4 and also tried a libtoolize --automake and
libtoolize --force... but nothing helps... what can i do?
