You are greatly misrepresenting this. There is no such agreement. I certainly do not agree that register_globals should ever be deprecated. The most radical change that could ever happen would be that it could be turned off by default, but it will never be deprecated.
yet another way to express ;) (in fact I mixed up track_vars and register_globals a bit to keep my report as short as possible) Assertion: The more complex and serious a script is, the more likely is that track_vars are beeing used and the more likely is that users will want to use %20. Stas´ comment is a bit buggy, try this query: ?1asd=%20asdf It´d result in variable $1asd which is not allowed either, thus this mystic conversion mechanism is buggy anyway and I´d say it should be removed for track_vars and perhaps improved for register_globals (to catch leading numbers) andré
