I find the zend_hash_* functions perfect for my uses. :-)
If we were to abstract them i'd suggest
add_index_zval
add_next_index_zval
add_assoc_zval
That way it wouldn't have to just be used for arrays.
#define add_index_zval(ar, i, val) \
zend_hash_index_update((ar)->value.ht, i, &(val), sizeof(zval *), NULL);
#deine add_next_index_zval(ar, val) \
zend_hash_next_index_insert((ar)->value.ht, &(val), sizeof(zval *), NULL);
#defne add_assoc_zval(ar, name, val) \
zend_hash_add((ar)->value.ht, name, strlen(name) + 1, &(val), sizeof(zval
*), NULL);
